Women’s Hoops Powers Past Polar Bears for Season Sweep, 73-45

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (16-3, 10-2 OAC) traveled to Ohio Northern (12-7, 8-4 OAC) on Saturday for a top-three OAC matchup. In the end, the Comets would complete their first season sweep of the Polar Bears since the 2020-21 season with a huge 28-point win, 73-45.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The contest started out pretty close in the first quarter with Capital gaining a slight edge in the first 10 minutes, 12-11. However, it was the second quarter where the Comets really started to separate themselves thanks to a 16-2 run that spanned 5:28. All-in-all CU would outscore Ohio Northern 21-7 in the second period, leading to a demanding 15-point lead at the half, 33-18. Jenna Horsley was the leading scorer in the first half with 11 of the team's 33.

The Purple and White would go on to put up 20+ again in the third quarter, adding eight points to their advantage after scoring 24 and keeping the Polar Bears to just 16. It certainly helped to start on a 14-0 run in the first three minutes of the third thanks to four-straight three-pointers from Maddi Weiland, Bri O'Connor, and Laney Murphy. And after three, Capital had procured a 23-point lead, 57-34.

CU struggled to start the fourth quarter but would go on to seal the deal with a 12-2 run to cap off a 16-11 final period. Again, it was four three-pointers falling on the run, this time provided by Murphy, Horsley, Kendall Spreen, and Aleyna Rick – the first points of her young career. When it was all said and done, the Comets had secured a huge 28-point victory, 73-45.
