COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (17-3, 11-2 OAC) made the trip to Muskingum (4-16, 2-11 OAC) on Wednesday night, resulting in the Comets' seventh-straight win, a season-high 88 points, and their highest margin of victory in over a decade at 88-44.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital pulled out in front quickly, starting on a 10-0 run and holding Muskingum scoreless for the first four minutes.
Laney Murphy (8 PTS) and
Samaree Perkins (7 PTS) led the scoring efforts in the quarter as the Comets would outscore the Muskies 22-8. Cap would go on to put up 24 in the second quarter, holding Muskingum to just 15 to take a 23-point lead into halftime, 46-23. At the half, it was Perkins (15 PTS) and Murphy (12 PTS) continuing to top the team in points.
The second half was a lot more of the same with CU scoring 19 in the third quarter and holding the Muskies to single digits once again at six in the ten minutes. This time it was
Bri O'Connor with the high for the quarter at nine points. After three, Capital maintained a 36-point lead at 65-29. The Purple and White would put up another 20-point quarter in the fourth, outscoring Muskingum 23-15 led by
Aleyna Rick (11 PTS) and
Izzy Rodriguez (8 PTS). When the game finally came to a close, the Comets had built up an incredible 44-point advantage at 88-44.
THE NUMBERS
The Comets had their best overall shooting night of the season, going 32-for-64 (50.0%) from the field, as well as 13-for-38 (34.2%) from three-point range, and 11-for-14 (78.6%) from the free throw line.
Bri O'Connor was Cap's leading scorer with 16 points, adding five steals, four rebounds, and three assists.
Samaree Perkins put up 15 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. She also had two assists and one steal.
Laney Murphy finished with 13 points as well as two steals and one assist.
Aleyna Rick scored a career-high 11 points with a career-high three three-pointers as well as one rebound.
Izzy Rodriguez had a career-high eight points, making her first two career three-pointers and collecting a career-high-tying two rebounds with a career-high two assists.
Kenzie Weiland ended her night with six points, one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
Kendall Spreen dished out a career-high six assists with five points and one rebound.
Tahirah Ellis also scored five points, with a career-high-tying three blocks as well as two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Kya Jordan scored four points, tying her career-high four steals and recording two rebounds, with one assist, and one block.
Jenna Horsley had three points and one rebound.
Nyla Washington scored her first two career points, pulled down a career-high three rebounds, and recorded her first career steal as well.
Maddi Weiland had four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.
Olivia Rouser dished out a career-high three assists with a career-high two rebounds.
