Comets Drop Road Contest to #16 Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Capital University women's basketball team battled No. 16 Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference match-up Tuesday evening at Branch Rickey Arena, but a strong second-half surge by the nationally ranked Battling Bishops resulted in a 68-53 loss for the Comets.  With the loss, Capital drops to 8-2 on the year.  Meanwhile, Ohio Wesleyan rises to 6-1 after the win.

Capital went toe-to-toe with Ohio Wesleyan through the opening half, leading 18–17 after the first quarter and playing to a 34-34 tie at halftime. Samaree Perkins and Tahirah Ellis powered the Comet offense early, combining for 33 points, while Capital shot 30.6 percent from the field and stayed within striking distance against the nation's 16th-ranked team.

Ohio Wesleyan gained separation in the third quarter, outscoring Capital 22-9 behind a balanced offensive attack and dominance on the glass. Macy Miller led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Bishops, who finished the game with a 51-35 rebounding advantage and 17 second-chance points.

Perkins paced Capital with 17 points, while Ellis added 16 points and seven rebounds. Kyah Ewing contributed nine points off the bench as the Comets continued to compete defensively, forcing 10 turnovers and limiting Ohio Wesleyan to 19.0 percent shooting from three-point range.
