ADA, Ohio - The Capital University women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, as Ohio Northern University handed the Comets a 68–60 setback at the ONU Sports Center, snapping Capital's eight-game winning streak.
The Comets (8–1, 2–1 OAC) and Polar Bears traded leads throughout a tightly contested contest that featured eight lead changes and six ties. Capital trailed by just one point, 17–16, after the opening quarter and remained within striking distance at halftime, down 33–27.
Capital delivered its strongest stretch in the third quarter, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and using a 20-point frame to briefly regain the lead. A three-pointer from Julia Nash and a fast-break layup by Samaree Perkins helped the Comets pull even at 44–44 late in the period before Ohio Northern edged ahead 48–47 entering the fourth.
The fourth quarter proved to be the difference, as Ohio Northern connected on timely perimeter shots and converted key free throws down the stretch. Capital tied the game at 56–56 with just under five minutes remaining, but the Polar Bears closed the game on a decisive run to secure the eight-point victory.
Nash led Capital with 17 points, knocking down five three-pointers, while Perkins added 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Kya Jordan and Tahirah Ellis each scored 10 points, with Ellis also pulling down five rebounds and recording three steals.
Capital finished the game shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc, while Ohio Northern held an advantage on the glass and scored 28 bench points to help seal the win.

The Comets will look to bounce back as the are back on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 16 to take on nationally ranked Ohio Wesleyan. The game will tip-off at 5 PM.
