Strong Second Half Propels Men's Soccer to Victory

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University men's soccer team was back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a conference match-up with Marietta.  Thanks to an offensive explosion in the second half of play, the Comets would come away with a 4-2 victory.  With the win, Capital raises their record to 3-7-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.  Meanwhile, Marietta drops to 4-8-2 overall and 1-3 in conference.

After 29 minutes of scoreless play to begin this one, it would be the Pioneers striking first to take the 1-0 lead.  The Comets would not back down, however, as Christian Monzalvo would respond with a goal of his own just 10 minutes later in the 39th minute.  Coming from an assist from Jack Thomas, Monzalvo would record his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Capital offense would come out firing in the second half, as Derrick Harris would add two quick goals in the 47th and 53rd minute to give the Comets a 3-1 lead.  The senior would send a penalty kick home before scoring the second on a pretty pass from Wassim Metatla.

Putting the game out of reach was Cade Wurstner, who would find the back of the net less than a minute after Harris' second goal.

Getting the nod to begin this one between the posts was Ethan Ogden, who finished with four saves in 60 minutes of play.  Solid in relief was Noah Thomas, who closed the final 30 minutes of play with three saves.
