Perkins and O’Connor Combine for 54 as Women’s Hoops Secures Fifth-Straight Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (15-3, 9-2 OAC) hosted Heidelberg (3-15, 2-9 OAC) on Wednesday with the Comets using a strong second quarter to secure a 15-point victory over the Student Princes and career win number 50 for head coach Camille McPherson.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game started with a slow first quarter as the teams took a while to settle in and get shots to fall. Capital's first field goal wouldn't come until nearly a minute-and-a-half in. On the other side, Heidelberg had to wait nearly five minutes for their first field goal. From then on out, the two sides traded baskets until the first break, with the Comets taking a slim 14-12 advantage. CU was led by Samaree Perkins with nine points.

The Purple and White would break out in the second quarter, ending the half on a 16-3 run that spanned the final six minutes. Perkins and Bri O'Connor both put up five points during that stretch, with Kya Jordan, Jenna Horsley, and Laney Murphy making up the other six. It stood at 32-19 in Cap's favor at the half, with Perkins putting up 16.

The second half was much more high-scoring and much closer. Capital added three to their advantage in the third quarter, outscoring Heidelberg 22-19. O'Connor led with 12 points in the period, taking her total to 17. Perkins and Murphy each had five as well as CU took a 54-38 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The fourth quarter was the only in which the Purple and White were outscored – just barely – by the Student Princes, 20-21. In the end, it made little difference as the Comets secured the 15-point victory, 74-59. O'Connor would add 10 to her total while Perkins put up an additional six, bringing the final total for both to 27.
