COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team embraced a large crowd on their home floor and dominated Marietta College on Wednesday night, leading for nearly 37 minutes of play en route to a profound 86-73 win.
The result pushes Cap to 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the OAC conference. Marietta is now 9-7 on the year and also 3-6 in the conference.
The Comets got going early in the first half, jumping out to an 11-4 lead by the 17:10 mark, spurred on by back-to-back three pointers by
McKane Finkenbine and
Se'Ron Calloway-White. Front here, the Comets played in control and nearly led the entirety of the remainder of the game. Three free throws by Marietta's Konlin Brown with four minutes left in the first half kickstarted a comeback effort by the Pioneers. That momentum eventually led to a visitor's 39-38 advantage at the halftime interval.
Undeterred by the swing in momentum, Capital got the game back in their favor quickly in the second half thanks to a layup by
Alex Eyink. From there, it was all Cap as the Purple and White stayed in front for much of the way. The Comets finished with a flourish as they ended the final 3:41 of the game on a 10-4 run that ballooned the final score to 86-73.
