Volleyball Falls in Season Opener at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Capital University volleyball team fell in straight sets to DePauw University on Friday night. The sets went in favor of the hosts 25-16, 25-14 and 25-21.

Now 0-1 to start the year, Capital saw more attacking opportunities than the hosts, but converted at a lesser rate, ultimately telling the story for the final scoreline. Despite that, Capital held the upper hand in assists and narrowly trailed the hosts in both digs and kills.

In the final numbers, both Larissa Smith and Simone Daniel led Capital in kills with six each. They were followed by Chloe Preocanin with five and Samaree Perkins and Sophia Sobota with four each.
Bryn Whitmer facilitated the offense, setting up 18 assists, while Kenadee Winters added seven helpers.

At the service line, Sobota led Capital with two aces, while Smith, Abby Brunner and Winters each landed one.

At the net, Sobota, Smith, Perkins and Abby Reed each got in on a block.

Brunner was the leader in the back row, finishing with a game-high 17 digs. Sobota (7) and Winters (6) followed behind in that category.

The Comets will turnaround for two more games at DePauw's opening weekend invitational tomorrow, facing Wheaton and Spalding.
