COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team closed the book on the 2024 season with a pair of 9-2 losses to Marietta College on Senior Day. The games were played Monday due to a postponement from Sunday's original date.
With the results, Capital ends the season with an overall record of 10-28 and a 3-15 OAC mark. Marietta advances to the OAC Tournament with a 21-17 record and a 12-6 OAC ledger.
After the conclusion of game two, the Comets recognized five seniors for their contribution to the program over the years –
Kyle Bowles,

In game one of the day, neither team could grab a footing offensively as the game cruised into the third inning scoreless. Marietta then pushed across two runs in the third inning and then added three more in the fifth to go in front 5-0. The Comets responded with a two-RBI single from

Jared Carpenter. Unfortunately that would be the scoring for Capital as Marietta went on to score two more in both the seventh and eighth innings to seal the deal 9-2.
For Capital, the offense collected just three hits – two from Harrison and one from Carpenter. THe Comets did walk five times – two from
Cade Anderson and one each from
Ben Stevens, Carpenter and Boroff.

In game two, the offenses started up quickly in the first inning as Marietta went in front 1-0 in the top half of the first. In the bottom half of the opening frame, Capital responded with two runs of their own. First,

Arnulfo Gonzalez singled through the left side to score
Cade Anderson. The runs put Capital in front 2-1.
The lead lasted into the third when Marietta tied it at 2-2. Then, in the fifth inning the Pioneers scored three more to move in front. The visitors didn't look back, adding four more before all was said and done, resulting in the carbon copy 9-2 scoreline again.
