Three-Peat Complete: Women’s Lax Wins Third Straight OAC Championship in Dominating Fashion

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Not one. Not two. But three consecutive OAC Tournament Championships have been won by the Capital Women's Lacrosse Team. On Saturday afternoon, Capital dismantled Mount Union 22-9 at Bernlohr Stadium to secure the OAC title and qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row as well. The 13-goal differential marked the largest-ever margin of victory for the Comets over the Purple Raiders.
With a 14-4 record overall and the conference crown in tow, Capital will now await the NCAA Selection Show that will take place on Monday, May 6th at 10:30 a.m. to learn their destination and opponent for the First and Second Round weekend to take place next Saturday and Sunday.

Mount Union now sits with a 12-4 record and will have to await the Monday selection show to determine if they will receive an at-large bid to the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter thanks to goals from Grace Osborn and two from Andi Henry. After a Mount Union response, Capital scored four more from Henry, Osborn, Lily Bower and Ava Vendetti. Again a Mount goal halted the Capital run, but Vendetti scored with 25 seconds left in the first quarter, making the score 8-2 in favor of the Comets.

To start the second quarter, Mount began to turn things around as they scored four straight of their own, closing the gap to 8-6 with 5:49 left in the first half.

From that point on, Capital went on to out-score the Purple Raiders 14-3 the rest of the game, leading to the comfortable 22-9 result in the end.

Goals across that spread for Capital came from Henry (7), Osborn (4), Vendetti (2) and Brenna Todd

Notably, in the third quarter, Mount started to press for more offensively, but Emily Serafinchon stood tall in the cage, recording five of her 12 saves in that 15-minute period alone. Additionally, Serafinchon conceded just once in that time frame.

THE NUMBERS
The offense was led by a career-high 10 goals from Andi Henry who with one assist finished with 11 points. She also added three caused turnovers, two ground balls and one draw control.

Grace Osborn broke the NCAA Division III single-season goal-scoring record of 141, with her six goals giving her 142 on the year. She added four assists for 10 points, along with three caused turnovers, five ground balls, and 11 draws.
