Women’s Lacrosse’s Season Comes to an End in the NCAA Second Round

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team (14-5, 6-1 OAC) hosted No. 12 Roanoke College (17-4, 8-1 ODAC) on Saturday in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championships. The Comets – who earned a first-round bye after winning their third straight OAC title – put up quite the fight, but would ultimately fall to the Maroons – who defeated Hope in the first round 24-6 – by final score of 20-11.

Thus marks the end of the 2024 season for the Purple and White with a final record of 14-5.

Cap came into this one very well prepared and ready to take on their toughest competition of the season. As a result, they found themselves with a one-goal advantage after the first quarter, up 5-4. Grace Osborn and Andi Henry were each responsible for two of the five, with Brenna Todd taking responsibility for the other. Roanoke returned in the second quarter with some adjustments to outscore CU 6-2 and claim a slim lead before the half, 10-7. Capital's two in the quarter both came courtesy of Osborn.

The third quarter was as competitive as the first as the Comets kept the Maroons on their heels, scoring three in contrast to four from Roanoke. As a result, Cap kept themselves within striking distance at 14-10 heading into the final fifteen minutes. Again it was Osborn, Henry, and Todd tallying the scores for CU. The fourth quarter was when Roanoke finally created some separation, outscoring the Purple and White 6-1 with Osborn netting the loan goal. And so, after a truly hard-fought game where the Comets never quit, Capital would fall 20-11.
