Osborn Has Record-Setting Night as Women’s Lax Blows By BW

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The first-seeded Capital University women's lacrosse team (13-4, 7-1 OAC) started their OAC Tournament run off strong on Wednesday night when they met fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace (10-8, 4-3 OAC), utilizing two runs of nine-straight to blow past the Yellow Jackets 22-9.

Grace Osborn provided the highlights of the night, tying the NCAA single-game points record of 19 with 11 goals and a career-high eight assists, and breaking all three of the Capital single-season records for goals, points, and draw controls.

The Comets will now host second-seeded Mount Union in the OAC Tournament Final on Saturday, May 4th at Bernlohr Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital took awhile to get going, but when they did, they got GOING. Baldwin Wallace would draw first blood at around four minutes in, however that lead did not last long as the Comets went on a 9-0 run that spanned the next 14 minutes between the first and second quarters. Grace Osborn was the catalyst, scoring three of the first six and assisting on the other three to Ava Vendetti, Andi Henry, and Heather Stoner. Henry would have another before Osborn struck again, followed by Brenna Todd, to give Cap a 9-1 lead halfway through the second quarter.

BW would get two back shortly thereafter, but the Purple and White would respond again with ANOTHER 9-0 run, this time spanning 12:46 of game time between the second and third quarters. Osborn took responsibility for four of those nine goals, with two each going to Henry and Stoner, with the last being the work of Leah Leno from behind the cage, bouncing it off the keepers back and into the net. Osborn would net another after a brief interruption from the Yellow Jackets to end the third quarter at 19-4.

The fourth quarter was the only in which Capital was outpaced, dropping the final 15 minutes 5-3. This was largely due to the offense slowing down and being more deliberate with the ball. Even so, the Comets secured a double-digit win and advancement to the championship, 22-9.

THE NUMBERS
Grace Osborns record-setting night was highlighted by her 11 goals and career-high eight assists to tie the NCAA single-game record of 19 points. Her 19 points puts her well past Brooke Delara's Capital single-season record of 167, now at 178. She also surpassed her own CU single-season records of 126 goals and 134 draw controls, now with 136 goals and 140 draw controls. Along with her 10 draw controls on the night, she also picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers. And finally, on top of all that, she is now within 20 goals of the overall NCAA goal-scoring record of 389 set last year, sitting just 16 away at 373.

Andi Henry had eight points from four goals and four draw controls, as well as three draw controls and one ground ball.

Heather Stoner scored her second career hat trick, finishing with three points and two ground balls.
