COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team enjoyed the Solar Eclipse at Clowson Field on Monday afternoon into the evening, and played well as a unit on the field, but unfortunately came out on the wrong end of the scoreboard in two games, 7-3 and 3-1.
Capital is now 8-6 on the season and 3-3 in the OAC, while Muskingum is 15-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
In game one, the game progressed to the seventh inning with Capital leading 2-1, thanks to runs scored on a wild pitch and an RBI double from
Emma Gant. In that seventh frame, the Muskies finally cracked the code of what had been a stellar pitching performance from
Megan Mlinaric and erupted for six runs, going ahead 7-2 by the end of the frame.
In the bottom half of the inning,
Kyleigh Kirby drove in a run on an RBI single, but the run would simply be consolation.
Mlinaric ended with throwing 6.1 innings and conceding eight hits, three walks and five runs all while striking out six.
On the offensive side of game one,
Autumn Bridges and
Rory Littman each ended with two hits, while Kirby, Gant,
Reagan Irons, and
Lyndi Hemmelgarn each recorded one base knock.
Game two proved to be another pitcher's battle as Tareyn Born and
Krislyn Bayles both pitched great games on their respective sides.
Ultimately, the Muskies scattered a run in the top of the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to go up 3-0, before Capital responded with a run of their own thanks to an RBI single from
Reagan Irons in the bottom of the seventh. Again, the run proved to be consolation as the final score would end up 3-1.
Bayles would end up tossing seven full innings where she conceded nine hits, three earned runs and struck out four.
At the plate,
Emma Sweetman and
Megan Parry delivered two hits a piece, while Irons and Littman accounted for the other two Comet hits.
