ADRIAN, Mich. – The Capital University men's lacrosse team ventured north to Adrian College on Saturday afternoon, where they would fall 9-7 at the final horn.
The Comets – who have one of the harder schedules in recent years – now slip to 1-5 on the year. Adrian now sits 2-2.
Capital got on the board first with
Jake Belt rifling home the first goal of the game. After a tying score from Adrian,
Jacob Poole then put Cap back in front.
Three straight from the Bulldogs was met with a run of three consecutive goals from the Comets just before halftime as Cap went to the break ahead 5-4.
Anthony Carusone, Belt, and
Mason Spaulding each scored in the blitz.
Out of the half, Capital and Adrian again traded runs, this time, Capital going up 7-6 with 4:33 left in the game thanks to goals from Spaulding and
Aiden Manning. Unfortunately for the Comets, Manning's goal would be their final tally of the game as Adrian ended on a 3-0 run that saw them claim the win 9-7.
THE NUMBERS
Mason Spaulding and
Jake Belt were the leading scorers, each netting twice. Spaulding also added an assist, while Belt had one ground ball and two caused turnovers.
The aforementioned Carusone, Poole and Manning each scored once.
Gino Nave recorded an assist while also finishing with a ground ball and two caused turnovers.
In the ground ball game, freshman
Tyler Lieu scooped up a career-high 11 ground balls thanks to 12 faceoff wins – also a career best.
Drew Bolen added five ground balls and was followed by two each from
James Howenstine,
Luc Kadlic, and
Charlie Howenstine.
Luc Kadlic got the nod in goal and made 15 saves – a new career-high for the freshman.

Capital will pause midweek this coming week as their next game will be on Saturday, March 16th at 1 p.m. on the road at Transylvania University.
