COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team (7-3, 1-0 OAC) wrapped up their non-conference schedule on Wednesday with an afternoon matchup against George Fox (5-3, 4-0 NWC) of Newberg, Oregon. It was a close contest through-and-through with the Comets sneaking away with a 19-17 win after taking over the lead in the third quarter.
OSBORN MAKES HISTORY… AGAIN
It was another historic day for junior midfielder
Grace Osborn as she rewrote the Capital record books once again, breaking both the program record for career points and the program record for goals in a single game (again). With 15 points for the day, she flew past Brooke Delara's career mark of 389 and now sits at the the top of the career points leaderboard with 395 and counting. As 14 of those 15 points came in the form of goals, she also surpassed her own single-game goals record of 13 that she set in last year's OAC Championship and went on to tie earlier this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital had a slow start in the early going, quickly finding themselves in a 4-1 deficit after the first six minutes. However, the Comets stuck with George Fox for the remainder of the quarter and would end up only two goals behind at the first break, 8-6.
Grace Osborn scored five of the six for CU, with
Andi Henry picking up the other.
The Purple and White would get back within one in the second quarter as they put up five compared to the Bruins' four, bringing the halftime scoreline to 12-11. It was a string of four-straight for Cap with another added at the end of the period. Henry had two along with Osborn, and
Ava Vendetti netted the other.
The third quarter came to be the difference-maker in the game, with the Comets taking an 18-16 lead after outscoring George Fox 7-4. A momentous six-goal streak did the trick with a lone goal again being added at the end of the quarter. Osborn put up six for the period as she scored the first five of that run of six-straight – with the sixth being courtesy of Henry – as well as the solo goal.
The final fifteen minutes came and went without much action on the scoreboard as both teams only managed one goal, resulting in a 19-17 win for the Purple and White. The 19th and final goal for Capital was scored by none other than Osborn.
