COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team did enough to walk away with a 66-53 win over visiting Heidelberg University on Wednesday night.
The Comets now sit with a 16-6 record, including an 11-4 mark within the OAC. Heidelberg falls to 4-18 on the year and 1-14 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets made up the difference in the game in the second half as they held just a slim 35-34 lead at the halftime interval. In the third quarter, Capital added to their lead after a quick 3-pointer from
Laney Murphy. Then by the end of the quarter, a pair of layups from
Bri O'Connor allowed Cap to hold a seven point edge heading to the final period of play.
In the fourth, Capital held Heidelberg at bay, eventually working around the defense to put up an additional 19 points in the game. A traditional three point play from
Tahirah Ellis with 1:02 remaining gave Cap their largest lead at 66-49, enough to hang on for the comfortable margin at the final horn.
THE NUMBERS
Samaree Perkins led the Comets with 16 points. She was supported in scoring by 14 points from
Laney Murphy and 12 points by
Bri O'Connor.
Perkins secured a double-double, finishing with 12 rebounds. The double-double was her 10th of the season. She also added one assist and two blocks.
Demi Brewer had a season-high eight assists to go with four points and five rebounds.
O'Connor added eight rebounds, two assists and five steals to her evening performance.

Capital will face a tough test this coming Saturday as they hit the road to Ohio Northern, looking to complete the season sweep over the high-powered Polar Bears.
