ADA, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (16-7, 11-5 OAC) took to the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday, traveling to face Ohio Northern (14-8, 12-4 OAC). The Comets would complete an 18-point comeback in the final 10:14, but ultimately two game-winning attempts would fall offline with ONU taking the game 64-62.
CU started the game strong, shooting 5-of-12 (41.7%) from the field and taking a 13-9 lead into the first break. Unfortunately, the Purple and White would fall far behind in the second and third quarters. All-in-all, Capital was outscored 42-22 by ONU in the middle periods. This left the Comets facing a 51-35 deficit entering the final 10 minutes.
Cap was certainly up for the challenge as they started the fourth quarter on a 17-4 run to pull within just three. After a bit of back-and-forth, the Purple and White would put in back-to-back threes to tie the game at 62-62 with 25.2 on the clock. This gave Ohio Northern as much time as they wanted to run the clock down and try to score, which they did, laying the ball in with five seconds remaining. A quick timeout gave Capital the opportunity to advance the ball and set up a play on the inbound. This resulted in not only one, but two open chances, but unfortunately for the Comets, both fell offline. In the end, ONU would escape with a 64-62 win.
