TIFFIN, Ohio – Capital University Men's basketball team fell just short against the Student Princes of Heidelberg. Despite leading the game at halftime, the Comets couldn't finish it out and ended up losing 73-65.
After the loss, the Comets move to 14-8 overall and 8-7 in the conference. The home win puts Heidelberg at 13-9 overall and 9-6 in OAC conference play.
The first half of this ball game seemed to be all Capital, as the Comets led for an impressive 16:22 of the first half.
Nate Gerber came up big in the first half, leading the Comets in scoring with seven points.
Justin Nixon was there to clean up the glass with an astounding seven first-half boards.
Carter Combs moved the ball well, and was seemingly able to find the open man at all times. He ended the half with three assists. Although the Student Princes started off sloppy, they found their way back into the contest thanks to the free throw line, rallying back to go into the half down five with a score of 28-23.
Coming out of halftime, the Comets were playing good basketball but were having a hard time finding the bucket. Some big plays and more time at the free throw line helped Heidelberg take the lead with 9:38 left in the contest. The Comets put up a good fight, but the Student Princes of Heidelberg were able to take that lead to the end of the game. Alex Eyink gave them a run for their money, but ultimately Heidelberg won with a final score of 73-65

Baden Forup led the Comets in scoring with an efficient 16 points (66.7% FG), closely followed by
Dom Moegerle and
Alex Eyink who had 12 apiece.
Justin Nixon tied his season-high in rebounds, snagging 10 boards.
Carter Combs saw the floor well with five assists.
Alex Eyink went 50% from three, shooting 2-4.

The Comets will host the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern in an OAC matchup at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Both teams will be looking to get back on the winning side of things after suffering close losses in each of their previous contests. Capital will be seeking revenge at home after a road loss to the Polar Bears earlier this season. Additionally, Capital will celebrate senior day on Saturday with seniors
