Osborn Breaks All-Time Scoring Record as No. 19 Women’s Lax Sweeps Past Centre

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team (2-0, 0-0 OAC) was back in action on Wednesday night, hosting Centre (1-1, 0-0 SAA) for an early evening contest. The No. 19-ranked Comets (according to USA Lacrosse Magazine) scored 17 goals in the first half alone to lead to a 26-16 win.

NEW SCORING QUEEN
The reigning IWLCA and USA Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week Grace Osborn has added one more line to her already lengthy resume: Capital Women's Lacrosse All-Time Scoring Leader. And she did it in just the first half. With her ninth goal of the night and the 255th of her career, Osborn officially surpassed Luci Kanowsky (254) for the program's all-time scoring crown. This would be one of two records being broken by Osborn on the night as with 12 goals and four assists for 16 points, she broke her own single-game points record set in the OAC Championship at Mount Union last year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Grace Osborn got things rolling with the first goal of the game just 30 seconds in. From there the teams traded blows until about the 7-minute mark when the Comets started to turn it on with an 8-1 run. Osborn led the charge with five more scores, joined by Ava Vendetti and Andi Henry who added two each. Centre would bounce back a bit with three straight before the quarter came to a close at 11-8.

The scoring slowed down in the second quarter and would never quite pick back up again. The Purple and White put in six goals in the second period, holding Centre to two and taking a 17-10 lead into the halftime break. Osborn would be responsible for four of the six scores -- including her record-breaking ninth goal -- with Henry taking the other two.

Cap carried on to outscore Centre 4-1 in the third quarter and split the fourth quarter 5-5. Heather Stoner scored her first two of the season to start off the second half, assisted by Osborn and Brenna Todd. Todd would tally the fourth goal of the quarter, with Henry having the third. Two from Osborn and one from both Henry and Vendetti account for the first four of CU's scores in the fourth quarter, the fifth being from Holly Stoner – the first of her career – to take Capital to a 26-16 victory.

THE NUMBERS
Grace Osborn broke her own single-game points record with 16 total points, one more than her OAC Championship performance at Mount Union last year. She scored 12 goals and added four assists to achieve the feat. Osborn also came up one shy of the single-game draw controls record, finishing with 13 as well as accounting for four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Andi Henry had her second-straight 11 point performance, tying the career-highs in points, goals (6), and assists (5) that she set last game. She also accrued four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and four draw controls.

Ava Vendetti had four goals and one assist to total five points, she picked up a career-high seven draw controls as well as one ground ball.
