COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team fell by a final score of 100-75 in their OAC-opener to visiting Heidelberg University.
The Comets got off to a slow start offensively and could never quite kick it into gear in order to catch the Student Princes who led wire-to-wire. Capital is now 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Heidelberg is 4-3 on the year and 1-0 in OAC play.
Capital's
Brody Gowen had a career-night recording his first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds – both career-high numbers. He added an assist, a block and a steal as well.
Dom Moegerle led Capital with 16 points, followed by
McKane Finkenbine who scored 12 points. Moegerle added six boards, while
Justin Nixon was the team's leading assist-man with three. Finkenbine led the team with four steals.
In the physical affair, both teams combined for 63 free throw attempts, where Capital went 28-for-39 and Heidelberg shot an astounding 23-of-24 from the line. The Comets were led by
McKane Finkenbine who went 8-of-8 from the stripe, followed closely by
Alex Eyink who was 6-of-6.
