Men’s Basketball Starts Season on Top with 93-76 Win Over Earlham

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team opened up a new season at home on Saturday afternoon with an exciting 93-76 win over visiting Earlham College. 

The win starts the Comets 1-0 on the year, while Earlham begins their season 0-1. 

Capital saw five players reach double figures in scoring to lead the efforts, as senior Justin Nixon scored a team-best 21 points. His scoring came while playing just 20 minutes and finishing off 9-of-11 shots, including his first career 3-pointer. He added six boards, three assists, two blocks and two steals to his effort as well. 

Supporting Nixon was a quartet led by Ryan Suever with 18 points (7-for-14), five rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Alex Eyink finished with 12 points and Brody Gowen scored a career-high 11 points off the bench. Gowen was perfect, 4-for-4 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. Dom Moegerle also hit double-digits with 10 points. 

The Comets dished out 21 assists in the game, led by eight dimes from McKane Finkenbine, and three from Moegerle. 

Se'Ron Calloway-White scored seven points in his debut, while Eljae Deas netted three points as well. 

Other debutants in today's game were Torrien Perkins (two points), Matt O'Donnell, Amani Dickerson, Cade Davies, Mili Walker, Tyson Garner and Xathan Haney

As a team, the Comets poured in 51.4% of their shots and were a solid 14-of-18 from the line. 

Earlham was led by the hot hand of Ken Walker who netted 33 points on 13-of-18 shooting. Aside from Walker's output the Comets held the Comets to just 17 made shots.

Capital will now hit the road for their next four games – one of which is an Exhibition at Division I institution Dayton. Capital will head to Kenyon on Wednesday, November 13th and then Dayton on Saturday, November 16th.
