UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The third-seeded Capital University women's soccer team (7-9-4, 4-2-3 OAC) traveled to second-seeded John Carroll (12-6-1, 7-1-1 OAC) on Thursday night for the OAC Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinals, the first of now 10 postseason meetings between the two teams to be played on the road in University Heights. In the end, a single late goal was enough for JCU to escape with the win, 1-0 in favor of the hosts.
It was a scoreless first 45 minutes, with the two sides square at six shots each as well as two shots on goal apiece. Despite this, the ball seemed to be in the Comets attacking zone for the majority of the time, with CU earning themselves four corner kicks as opposed to none on the other side.
The second half was just as competitive, with the teams separated but just one shot. That shot would be the difference maker as in the 84th minute, after playing pinball in the box, John Carroll's Meredith Coloian scored the game's first and only goal. Despite CU's best efforts, including some VERY close calls, the Purple and White were not able to equalize, the game – and the season – ending in a 0-1 loss.
Avery Hart led the offense with five shots (two on target), followed by
Grace Estes (3 SH, 2 SOG),
Taylor Marcum (2 SH, 1 SOG), and
Ryanne Michel (2 SH).
Taylor Duff,
Kendra Kovacs,
Bella Leonetti,
Catherine Zugaro,
Lizzie Elliott, and
Ava Spirk all had one attempt, all falling offline.
Liv Alford (5-8-4) played the full 90 minutes and made six saves.
