Men’s Soccer Pulls off Upset in Final Minutes of OAC Quarterfinals

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Capital University men's soccer team traveled to take on John Carroll University in the first round of OAC Tournament play on Tuesday. Despite the Blue Streaks being the aggressor most of the contest, Cap was able to find the back of the net late in the contest to win 1-0.

The win propels the 5th seeded Comets to 7-8-4 overall and 5-3-1 in the conference as well as extending their season into the second round of the OAC tournament. The loss makes John Carroll 12-6-2 overall and 6-3-0 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Streaks were the aggressors for most of the night, putting up 7 shots on goal to Capital's 3. The Comets were able to fend off the attack with solid defensive positioning and 6 saves from Noah Thomas who was unstoppable in the net. With the fans and commentators expecting extra minutes, Jacob Deever had other ideas. The defense gave him some space, and he sent a beauty of a shot just over the keeper's hands to put the Comets ahead 1-0 in the 81st minute of play. John Carroll made a great effort, but the Comets handled the end of game scenario well, wasting as much time as possible until the clock ran out. With a final score of 1-0 the Comets will be advancing to the semifinals of the OAC tournament.

THE NUMBERS
Noah Thomas was an unbreakable wall in the net, securing 6 saves for Capital.

Jacob Deever made it look easy, scoring the only goal of the night.

UP NEXT
The Comets will travel to Alliance on Thursday to take on Mount Union in the OAC Tournament Semifinals. The Purple and White will be looking to get their revenge coming off a recent 3-4 loss to the Purple Raiders. Start time for that game is still to be determined.
