Men’s Soccer’s Strong Run Comes to Close in OAC Semis

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team traveled to top-seeded Mount Union on Thursday night for an OAC Tournament semifinal and a trip to the OAC title game on the line. The game marked the second time in five days in which the Comets and Purple Raiders squared off, with the first game on November 2nd ending in a 4-3 win for Mount. Tonight's game ended with a similar winner, as Mount defeated Capital, 2-0.

The Comets wrap up their season – and the first under head coach Corey Kirk – with an overall record of 7-9-4 and an OAC mark of 5-3-1. Mount will now host the OAC Championship vs. Otterbein on Saturday with a 15-4-1 record.

The game moved to halftime with a 0-0 scoreline, as both teams saw some good opportunities thwarted by the two goalkeepers. Capital's Ethan Ogden made three saves to Lucas Fields' two in the first 45, keeping the scoreless game at the break.

In the second half, Mount scored two similar goals in the 57th and 72nd minutes as Carter Hancock and Jordan Akins got behind the Comet defense and finished one-v-one opportunities, leading to the eventual 2-0 final score.

Ogden added three more saves to his total for the game, finishing with six in the game.

Jacob Deever, Christian Monzalvo, Brennan Hesse, and Landon  Montgomery led the offense with two shots a piece.

Capital will now turn their sights toward a productive offseason of re-building and preparing for another go at the conference in 2025.
