COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team (6-8-4, 5-3-1 OAC) hosted senior night on Saturday, the last night of the regular season, with a matchup against Mount Union (14-5-1, 8-2-0 OAC). It was a high -scoring affair that the Comets would ultimately find themselves on the wrong end of, losing 3-4.
SENIOR NIGHT
Prior to kickoff, the program recognized seniors
Connor Sexton,
Keegan Reese,
Devon Hess,
Joe Trogdon,
Brennan Hesse,
Colin McComb, and
Colton Daugherty for four years worth of solid contributions to the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The majority of the scoring happened within the first 20 minutes, starting with the Purple Raiders pulling ahead early with two goals in the first 11 minutes. However, CU would respond with one of their own in the 17th minute, scored by
Nico Voight off of an assist from
Brennan Hesse. The one-goal deficit would again be short lived as another Mount Union goal in the 20th minute pushed it back to a two-goal game which it would remain until halftime, 3-1.
The Comets came out in the second half on fire, having tied the game within the first six minutes of the latter 45.
Jacob Deever was responsible for both goals, scoring the team's second in the 49th minute off of assists from Hesse and
Jackson Terry, and then slotting away a PK to make it all square at 3-3 in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, the deciding vote would come just eight minutes later when the Purple Raiders put away their fourth in the 60th minute. Despite fighting to break even for the last thirty minutes, Cap would come away one short, 3-4.
THE NUMBERS
Jacob Deever scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season, tying him for the team lead with
