BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team took to the road to open OAC play for the season, traveling to Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon. Capital shook off an opening set 25-19 loss and rallied off three straight set wins by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-20 to seal the deal.
Capital now evens their overall record at 9-9 on the year and 1-0 in the conference. BW falls to 10-6 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
The secret sauce for the Comets proved to be quality serving, great back row defense and a tick more success on the offensive side of the ball as Cap landed 12 aces, recorded 88 digs and landed 45 kills in the match.
Capital garnered a swing in momentum in the match during set number two when the Cap opened up a 17-16 score and finished the set on a 8-1 run, winning 25-17. The run of scoring was pushed forward thanks to a trio of aces and kills from
Abby Reed and
Sophia Sobota.
From that point on, Capital set their sights on the win, and took the third and fourth sets, winning the match 3-1 in the end, marking their first OAC win since October 27, 2021 and their first over BW since November 1, 2014.
