Men’s Soccer Starts OAC Season with Big Win over BW

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team (5-4-3, 1-0-0 OAC) returned to Bernlohr Stadium after a long month away on Saturday night to start off OAC play against Baldwin Wallace (5-4-3, 0-1-0 OAC). There were fireworks as the Comets scored three goals in the span of six minutes enroute to a 3-1 win. Nico Voight (3, 4) and Jackson Terry (1) were responsible for the goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a quiet first 20ish minutes before CU's offense absolutely exploded for three goals within the span of six minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the half. It all started in the 25th minute when Jacob Deever decided to have a go at a free kick. Despite Deever's shot being saved, the Purple and White would still find the back of the net as Colton Daughtery tapped the rebound to Jackson Terry for the score.

Then only about 20 seconds later when Cap added some insurance in the 26th. The Comets caused some trouble for Baldwin Wallace on the ensuing kickoff and forced the keeper to come out and clear the ball. As they say "right place, right time", and Nico Voight was certainly in the right place at the right time as he blocked the keeper's clearance attempt almost 90 degrees sideways in the the side of the net for Capital goal number two on the evening.

Voight scored his second of the night less than five minutes later as he received a ball from Devon Hess and sent it into the top left corner to give the Comets a 3-0 lead. Hess and Hammudy Abdel-Ghani were both credited with the assists. The Yellow Jackets got one back in the second half after 89 minutes of physical play, but at that point it was just a consolation score at the end of a 3-1 victory for Cap.

THE NUMBERS
