Men’s Soccer Hooks a Spot in the OAC Tournament With Win at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team traveled to Muskingum University on Wednesday night, where they went ahead in just the third minute and comfortably cruised to a 4-0 shutout win.

The win boosts Capital's overall record to 6-7-4 and 5-2-1 in the OAC. Muskingum on the other hand falls to 4-12-2 (0-8 OAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacob Deever got things started just over two minutes into the game by drawing a foul in the penalty area and then stepping up to convert the spot kick, putting Cap ahead 1-0 early.

From there, the Comets slung eight more shots toward goal but could not add to the lead by halftime.

Finally, the pressure paid off in the 68th minute as Christian Monzalvo scored his second career goal by cleaning up a loose ball from close range.

Just two minutes later, Deever would double his tally in the game with an expertly taken shot from distance, pushing Cap's lead out to 3-0 in the 70th minute.

As the game cruised on with CU comfortably in control, the Comets polished off the game with a fourth in the 82nd minute, thanks to Joe Trogdon's first career goal. Trogdon received a centering pass from Luka Stojcev and slammed home his shot for the goal.

As a team, Capital slung 27 shots toward goal, with 15 finding the frame. The Muskie goalie made 11 saves to keep the Comet scoring to a minimum.

Noah Thomas made two saves in the first 72 minutes of play before making way for Connor Sexton to have a quiet night in goal for the final 18+ minutes.
