Men’s Soccer Dominates at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team (4-6-3, 3-1-0 OAC) hit the road on Wednesday night, traveling to take on Marietta (4-8-1, 1-3-0 OAC). The Comets would be dominant on the night, netting three and keeping the Pioneers scoreless. Jacob Deever (3) dropped in the first two, followed by Landon Montgomery (3) with the last.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Purple and White would first break on to the scoreboard in the 18th minute with Jacob Deever's first goal of the game. It was then that Deever was on the receiving end of a throw, which he turned into a chance from the top of the box that found the back of the net after taking a deflection from a defender and then glancing off the keeper's outstretched fingers.

Cap's second came in the 57th minute after Deever received a ball over the top which he nodded away from the oncoming keeper. Before the ball even hit the ground, Deever bicycled it from the edge of the box into the back of the net to take the lead – and his game total – to two.

Capital's final tally came in the 78th minute when Landon Montgomery made a cut inside and sent a shot over the goalie and bar down from about 30 yards away to seal the deal, 3-0.

THE NUMBERS
Jacob Deever scored his second and third goals of the year off of three total shots (two on target). It was the second time in his career that he's netted twice, the first coming against Case Western Reserve in 2022.

Landon Montgomery made his third mark on the scoresheet this season. He nailed his only shot on goal.

Overall, Cap put 11 shots up with six hitting their target. On the other side, Marietta made 15 attempts with only four finding their mark.

Noah Thomas (3-1-0) spent the evening in the goal, making four saves as he secured his second shutout of the season.
