COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team (1-1-0) surged in the second half on Tuesday night against Ohio Wesleyan (0-2-1), scoring three goals in the latter 45 to blow by the Battling Bishops by a score of 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It didn't take too long for the Comets to get on top in the first half of the game as they put their first mark on the board in just the 24th minute.
Lizzie Elliott would send a ball down the left sideline to
Lexi Snider who then found herself in space following some quick moves. Snider sent a right-footed strike off the keeper that slowly rolled into the bottom right corner of the net to give Cap the 1-0 advantage.
Sophia Leonetti would go on to add two while the second half was still in its infancy. The first came in the 58th minute of play following a long, looping cross into the box by
Tori Kittrell from the right side. Leonetti was able to get under it and power it past the keeper in her usual fashion: with the head – to put the Purple and White up 2-0.
Francesca Longano also assisted on the play, first passing to Kitrell.
Leonetti's second strike was almost a mirror image of the first. Following a failed corner in the 67th minute,
Nicole Ogden sent a pass to Kittrell on the left wing, who then sent another lobbed cross into the box that first found Leonetti's head and then the back of the net. 3-0 Comets.
The final step to CU's 4-0 victory took place in the 69th minute.
Taylor Marcum got the play started on the right side, making a centering pass to
Grace Estes for an easy deposit between the posts.
