Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat DePauw

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team extended their winning streak to four games, thanks to a 2-1 win over DePauw University on Saturday afternoon.

The Comets now sit 6-1 overall on the season, while DePauw moves to 4-3 overall.

The Comets found themselves trailing in the 17th minute as DePauw netted a goal from Matthew Fogo. Lalo Castellanos and Sam Thiel recorded assists on the play. That 1-0 lead for the Tigers would hold through the rest of the first half. The deficit marked the first time in 242 minutes the Comets had trailed dating back to the Franciscan game on September 11th.

In the second half, the Comets stepped up their pressure, eventually leveling the game in the 62nd minute. Derrick Harris took a pass from Devon Hess and drove past his defender before lacing a low shot past the DePauw goalkeeper. Hess picked up the assist on the goal.

Just 1:31 later, Harris would help put the Comets in front. The ball worked around to Harris on the left and the in-form sophomore rounded two defenders before sliding a ball across goal. When it looked harmless, Zade Awad stormed through the defenders and put the ball away on the back post, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Comets.

Capital would fend off any pressure from the Tigers for the remainder of the match, with Ethan Ogden coming up with a huge kick save on a DePauw header from six yards out. He then followed it up with a smart double save a few moments later to preserve the Comet lead.

All-in-all, Ogden ended with seven saves – a new career-high.
