Capital University Baseball ‘Boys of Summer Awards’ Announced

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 'Boys of Summer' Award is recognition of Capital University baseball players who have accepted the opportunity and challenge to play and compete against the best college baseball players in the nation in Major League Baseball (MLB) sanctioned and supported summer leagues.  Recipients of the 'Boys of Summer Award' have been identified and selected based on their performance and potential by former MLB players such as Dan Briggs, Charlie Hayes, Damian Jackson, Mark Leiter, Jim Leyritz, and John Pacella.

Supported in part by MLB, these leagues offer a 'living laboratory' for MLB scouts to analyze and assess college players from NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and NJCAA programs.  Placing players in these leagues is not only a testimonial to the players dedication, determination and drive, but also a commitment to player development by second-year head coach, Scott Manahan

Manahan said, "We are committed to player development, as it is essential for us to build our program, and a significant part of the process is placing our players in the most competitive collegiate leagues in the nation, and there are none better than the MLB supported leagues."

Manahan went on to say, "Nothing gives me more pride to see that our kids are mixing it up, going head-to-head with the best college players in the nation.  When you see our kids' names, on the same roster as some of these guys, playing with the best of the best…who wouldn't be proud?"

In closing, Manahan said, "The Capital University Baseball 'Boys of Summer' Award recognizes and acknowledges our student-athletes who stepped up, faced the challenge and competed well.  This award is a big deal for Capital University and our baseball program as it promotes the Capital brand as a center of excellence in both academics and athletics.  Perhaps most importantly, a big deal for our players as they being noticed and recognized by professionals for a job well done."
