Baseball Falls in Season Finale

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team played their last two games of the year on Thursday evening against the No. 14 ranked Marietta Pioneers. As expected, the Comets faced a tough test on the road. Ultimately, the Purple and White would come up short in both games, 15-4 and 9-4. Capital finishes the season with a 6-30 record, 0-18 in the OAC.

Capital fell into a hole in the early innings of game one, with Marietta scoring 15 runs before the end of the fourth inning. To make matters worse, the Comets were held scoreless until the sixth inning. However, when they did get on the board, they were able to put up three in the frame. First Ty Clifton doubled to left center, scoring Logan White. That was followed by a Christopher Rockwell single that plated both EJ Santana and Clifton. Cap added another in the seventh via a fielder's choice by White that allowed Ryan Brophy to cross the plate and brought the game to its final 15-4 scoreline.

The Comets faced a similar fate in the second game, this time being held scoreless – and hitless – until the ninth inning. Marietta was able to put up nine in the meantime. Capital would eventually end the no-hit bid with a Santana double. He would later come around to score on a double by Ryne McKinney that emptied the bases, also plating White and Robby Harrison. McKinney made it across on a Brophy fielder's choice later in the inning. The game would end 9-4 in favor of the hosts.
