UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The third-seeded Capital University men's lacrosse team wrapped up their postseason run on Wednesday evening, falling in the OAC Semifinals to second-seed host John Carroll 16-7.
Capital's season comes to a close at 13-5, having finished the conference schedule at 7-2.
John Carroll moves to 13-2, finishing OAC play at 8-1. JCU will play Baldwin Wallace in the conference championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets kept it close for the majority of the first half.
Jake Belt got the boys going with first goal of the game and
Max Schillig tied it back up after JCU put in two. The Blue Streaks would get the better of Capital at least in the first, up 3-2 at the break. Each team scored one in the second quarter, Cap's coming from
Dylan Comella. At the half, CU trailed by just one goal.
John Carroll started to break away in the second half, outscoring the Comets 6-1. Cap's lone goal was courtesy of
Charlie Howenstine. The fourth quarter was a bit more even, going 6-3 in favor of JCU.

Mason Spaulding, and
Nathan Montgomery making up CU's share. In the end, Capital came in far behind, 16-7.
THE NUMBERS
Mason Spaulding,
Brenden Pelton, and
Charlie Howenstine each put up two points, one off a goal and one off an assist. Spaulding scooped up an additional ground ball.

Jake Belt,
Max Schillig make up the remaining goal-scorers.
Max Schillig picked up two ground balls, while the other each had one. Montgomery also caused one turnover.
Defensively, the Comets were led by
Freddy Noday (4 GB, 2 CT),
Sam McInturf (4 GB), and
James Howenstine (2 GB, 2 CT).
Robert Smith (2 CT, 1 GB),
Drew Bolen (2 GB),
Austin Yanichko (2 GB),
Gino Nave (1 GB, 1 CT),
Jacob Poole (1 GB, 1 CT),
Aiden Manning (1 GB), and
Ethan Adkins (1 CT) also got in on the action.
McInturf made 20 saves and broke the single-season saves record for a second time in his career, beating his 206 from last year with 213 this season. He finishes 13-5, 24-16 in his career.
WHAT'S NEXT
It sure was a season to be proud of for Capital with a 13-5 record, 7-2 in the OAC, and earning the three-seed in the conference tournament and making it to the semifinals. On top of this there is a whole list of new records set and milestones surpassed. For now, the Comets are in a good spot to collect some postseason awards and start looking to build on the success they found this season.
