LEXINGTON, Va. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team battled heat and a pesky Transylvania University squad for much of the game, but eventually found their rhythm en route to a 21-11 win in the NCAA Tournament first round. The win marks the second consecutive season in which the Comets won their first round game in the NCAA postseason.
Capital now moves to 11-4 on the season while Transy finishes out their year with a 12-5 overall record. The Comets will now battle the No. 2 ranked Washington and Lee Generals on Sunday, May 14th at 1 p.m. in the tournament's second round.
The game with Transy, held on the campus of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, saw the Comets fall behind 1-0 early but a quick six goal run by Capital was enough to establish a lead that would never be relinquished. Despite several close scores at 6-3, 8-6, and 9-7, the Comets scored eight in a row through the third and fourth quarters to put the final punctuation on the contest.
