LEXINGTON, Va. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team suffered an NCAA Tournament second round exit at the hands of No. 2 ranked Washington & Lee University on Sunday, May 14th.
The Comets conclude their season with an overall record of 11-5, while the Generals improve to 19-1 and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16.
The match-up for Capital marked the highest ranked opponent the program has played in their 10-year history. Previously, Capital had only played teams below the top-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Generals put the result out of doubt in the first quarter, taking a 7-1 lead into the first break. In the second quarter, the hosts kept their foot on the gas and scored eight more goals to Capital's two, thus leading 15-3 at the intermission.
In the second half, most of the game was played exhausting the shot clock, thus seeing only nine combined goals in the final thirty minutes.
THE NUMBERS
Capital hung with the high-powered Generals in many categories, but were simply out-matched. The one category the Comets held the upper hand was saves as the tandem of
Emily Serafinchon (5) and
Meg Garcia (4) combined for nine stops.
The Comets also cleared pretty well, finishing successfully 12-for-14 on the clear.
Grace Osborn had a game for the Comets, scoring three goals, adding three ground balls, a caused turnover and four draw controls.
The other two goal scorers on the day were
Luci Kanowsky and
Ava Vendetti, while assists went the way of
Andi Henry (2) and
Julia Foresi.
Foresi and
Rylee Jarvis picked up two ground balls each while
Brenna Todd,
Haleigh McPhillips and
Skyla Caito added pick-ups as well.
Riley Johnson and
Andi Henry had a caused turnover as well.

Capital finished the season 11-5 overall and marked the second consecutive season in which the team won the OAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round. The season concluded the careers for seniors
