Women’s Lax Wins Big Time Battle at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team traveled to the Cleveland area on Friday, meeting up with OAC rivals John Carroll. It was a battle for OAC supremacy as the result would go a long way in deciding seeding for the conference tournament come the end of the month. Capital would come out on top, winning the shootout by a score of 19-15.

Capital moves to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.

JCU drops to 4-6 with a 2-1 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cap got the advantage in the early going, netting the first two goals of the game. Grace Osborn broke open the scoring with an unassisted goal at 11:12 in the first, and the Foresi followed at 10:18 via an assist from Luci Kanowsky. The Comets would stay ahead for nearly the rest of the quarter until the third of three straight from JCU put the Blue Streaks ahead 3-2 at the three-minute mark. Capital was quick to snatch the lead back, scoring three straight within a minute to end the frame. The first two came unassisted from Foresi with the last being an Andi Henry unassisted goal. At the end of the first it was Cap in front, 5-3.

The Comets struck again to open up the second quarter and take a three-goal lead, this time it was Osborn from Skyla Caito. John Carroll closed the gap once again, this time with five straight to take the 8-6 advantage. The Comets turned in another three-goal run, coming from Osborn (unassisted), Foresi (Henry), and Kanowsky (Foresi) to take a 9-8 lead. The Blue Streaks stopped the run at 2:44 left in the second quarter, tying the game. Kanowsky canned another with the help of Foresi to put Cap ahead at the half, 10-9.

The third quarter was a back and forth affair as neither team could put more than two goals in at a time without the other side retaliating. It was a net-zero third quarter with both clubs scoring four. For Capital it was Henry (unassisted), Osborn (unassisted), Foresi (Kanowsky), and Caito (Osborn) providing the attack.

The Purple and White pushed further ahead in the fourth quarter to finish of John Carroll, outscoring the Blue Streaks 5-2. Henry and Osborn headed up the final push, scoring all five unassisted and going on a streak of four straight around the midpoint of the period.
