Softball Falls on the Road at BW

BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University softball team made the trip to the Cleveland area on Thursday for a doubleheader at Baldwin Wallace. It was a quiet day at the plate for the Comets, scoring just one run on the day. CU would be shutout in game one 2-0 and lost game two 9-1. Capital falls below .500 at 14-16 (6-10 OAC), while Baldwin Wallace advances to 24-14 (10-6).

Brianna Shearer got the nod and went the distance in game one, pitching six innings. She struck out seven batters, and only allowed five hits, with zero earned runs. Baldwin Wallace's runs both came across in the early innings, one in the first and one in the second. The Comets actually outhit the Yellow Jackets 6-5 with Autumn Bridges, Lexie Leggett, Tiffany Zuelzke, Emma Gant, and Kelcie Schnitzler all reaching. Unfortunately none of those runners would come around to score and the game ended with a 2-0 scoreline in favor of the hosts.

Shearer stayed in to start game two as well, pitching one and two-thirds innings. She struck out one batter. Capital's only run of the game came across in the top of the second inning after Schnitzler reached on an error, scoring Chandler Young. BW put one run up in both the first and second, two in the third, and five in the fifth. The game would end via run-rule after five innings. Kyleigh Kirby, Liz Stonerock, Megan Mlinaric, and Bridges were the four Comets to reach base safely, Mlinarics being the only extra-base hit of the day.

UP NEXT
The Comets' upcoming schedule went through some big changes going into the last week of the season. The doubleheader on Friday, April 28 against Kenyon has been canceled due to weather and will not be made up. Additionally, the doubleheader at Clark State has been canceled by the opponent and will not be made up. This leaves CU with one scheduled series remaining on the calendar against Marietta on Sunday, May 7 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. There is also a postponed doubleheader against Miami Hamilton that is still up in the air on whether or not it will be played.
