Men’s Lacrosse Cruises To Win in Regular Season Finale

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team cruised to a comfortable 25-6 win on the road at Wilmington College on Wednesday evening to cap off their regular season.

The win moves Cap to 12-4 overall on the season and 7-2 in the OAC. Wilmington on the other hand slips to 3-13 (0-9 OAC).

A host of 14 Comets got on the scoresheet as Capital netted 25 or more goals in a single game for the third time this season – the others being against LaGrange and Heidelberg.

THE NUMBERS
Capital led 6-0 after the first quarter and rattled off 11 more unanswered goals before halftime to take a 17-0 lead into the locker room. In the second half, the team took the foot off the gas to coast to the 25-6 decision.

Mason Spaulding led the team with four goals and an assist, while also adding a ground ball.

Jacob Poole and Charlie Howenstine each netted three goals while Howenstine added two assists.

Nathan Montgomery, Ty Chase, Zen Kropp and Max Schillig all ended with two goals each. Montgomery and Chase each had two assists as well.

Evan Frund, Brenden Pelton, Kaison Durham, Austin Yanichko, Ian Michaud, Robert Smith, and Anthony Carusone all scored once. Frund tallied an assist as well.

In ground ball action, freshman faceoff specialist, Freddy Noday had himself a day, setting a new single-game ground ball record with 16 pick-ups, thanks to a blistering 23-for-25 effort at the faceoff dot. His 16 pick-ups tonight brings his season total to 93 ground balls -- surpassing the previous single-season record of 79, set by Tyler Faig in 2017. This comes on the heels of him being announced as a member of the USILA National Team of the Week this morning for his efforts last week.

Robert Smith was next in GBs with three, while James Howenstine recorded two.

The team recorded four caused turnovers, while James Howenstine, Evan Frund, and Ethan Adkins all had one CT a piece.
