COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Capital University women's tennis team emerged 5-2 winners over Mount Union on Tuesday afternoon in the OAC Tournament Quarterfinals at Whetstone Park of Roses in Columbus, Ohio.
The Comets, who are the No. 4 seed in the OAC Tournament, will now advance to the OAC Semifinals to play the No. 1 seed Otterbein Cardinals on Friday, April 28th at 4:30 p.m. That match will take place at the prestigious Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.
Overall on the season, Capital improves to 10-7, while Mount Union wraps up their season at 3-9.
DOUBLES
The Comets took two doubles points thanks to a tiebreaker win at #1 and a default win at #3. At the top spot,
Anna Fletcher and
Nicole Flock won 8-7 (7-4) over Abby Franks and Amelia Francisco.
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Jenny Rollins earned the point for Capital via default at the third spot.
Rachel Smith and
Kylee Fliter were narrowly defeated 8-5 at the second spot.
SINGLES
Ahead 2-1, Capital needed just three wins at singles to secure the match. They got those wins via Fletcher at #1, Rollins at #5 and Fliter at #6. Fletcher defeated Abby Franks 6-2, 6-1, Rollins knocked off Chloe Bancroft 6-0, 6-3 and Fliter won by default.
Rachel Smith was the only other Comet to finish their match and she was upended 6-4, 6-2 at the #3 spot.
Nicole Flock and
Amy Wright-Lovell both went unfinished in their matches.

As mentioned, the Comets will travel to Mason, Ohio to take on the top-seeded Otterbein Cardinals in the OAC Semifinals this Friday, April 28th at 4:30 p.m. A potential rain site is in the works should weather force the matches indoors.
