LEXINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team breezed past the Berea College Mountaineers on Friday evening, winning 9-0 in just under an hour and half of total play.
The Comets, who improved to 6-2 overall, benefitted from two forfeits and only dropped a total of four games in the contested matches to secure the easy victory.
In doubles play, both the pairing of
Spencer Surles and
Brady Wink and
Alex Rowley and
Thomas Secrist cruised to 8-0 victories.
Colin Welch and
Nicholas Wines were credited with the forfeit win at third doubles.
In singles action, Secrist, Surles and
Jackson Havel swept their opposition in #1, #2 and #5 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Colin Welch took his #4 bout 6-1, 6-1 over Bek Rakhimov, while
Jesse Stevens won #3 singles 6-2, 6-0 over Jordan Peterson.
Brady Wink benefitted from the forfeit at #6 singles to round out the team sweep.
Capital's next match will now take place on Friday, March 17th at 3:30 p.m. in Marietta, Ohio as the Comets will open up OAC play against the Pioneers. Note, this is a date and time change from the originally scheduled match that was to take place on Saturday, the 18th.
