COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University tennis team hosted Sweet Briar College from Virginia this afternoon, falling 9-0 to the Vixens.
The Comets scheduled this match as a make-up for the cancellation of two matches this past weekend. Capital now holds a 6-3 overall record this season.
Capital competed at every head-to-head match-up but ultimately did not have enough steam to keep pace with Sweet Briar who is playing five matches on their trip to Ohio, including three top-30 teams in the form of Denison, Case Western Reserve and Kenyon.
In doubles action,
Anna Fletcher and
Nicole Flock dropped the #1 spot by an 8-1 score.
Abigail Hornacek and
Kylee Fliter fell 8-2 at second doubles and
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Jenny Rollins fell by an 8-2 score at third doubles.
Singles play saw the Comets battle well in all areas, however the visiting Vixens won each match. In order from first to sixth singles:
Anna Fletcher lost 6-2, 6-2;
Nicole Flock fell 6-4, 6-1;
Amy Wright-Lovell lost 6-1, 6-0;
Abigail Hornacek fell 6-2, 6-0;
Rachel Smith lost 6-1, 6-2; and
Jenny Rollins dropped her match 6-1, 6-1.
The Comets will be back in action this weekend with a 1 p.m. match away to Otterbein University on Saturday, March 25th. The match will serve as the annual Battle for the Oar presented by Byers Airport Subaru.
