Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women’s Tennis Falls to Sweet Briar

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University tennis team hosted Sweet Briar College from Virginia this afternoon, falling 9-0 to the Vixens.

The Comets scheduled this match as a make-up for the cancellation of two matches this past weekend. Capital now holds a 6-3 overall record this season.

Capital competed at every head-to-head match-up but ultimately did not have enough steam to keep pace with Sweet Briar who is playing five matches on their trip to Ohio, including three top-30 teams in the form of Denison, Case Western Reserve and Kenyon.

In doubles action, Anna Fletcher and Nicole Flock dropped the #1 spot by an 8-1 score. Abigail Hornacek and Kylee Fliter fell 8-2 at second doubles and Amy Wright-Lovell and Jenny Rollins fell by an 8-2 score at third doubles.

Singles play saw the Comets battle well in all areas, however the visiting Vixens won each match. In order from first to sixth singles: Anna Fletcher lost 6-2, 6-2; Nicole Flock fell 6-4, 6-1; Amy Wright-Lovell lost 6-1, 6-0; Abigail Hornacek fell 6-2, 6-0; Rachel Smith lost 6-1, 6-2; and Jenny Rollins dropped her match 6-1, 6-1.

The Comets will be back in action this weekend with a 1 p.m. match away to Otterbein University on Saturday, March 25th. The match will serve as the annual Battle for the Oar presented by Byers Airport Subaru.
