COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing indoors on a bitterly cold day in Columbus, the Capital University women's tennis team secured their first OAC win of the season by beating Marietta College 6-3.
The Comets are now 6-2 overall this year, 1-0 in the OAC, and a perfect 3-0 in the spring season.
In doubles, action, Capital got on top early, winning the #2 and #3 spots.
Abigail Hornacek and
Kylee Fliter defeated Abby Hartshorn and Parkar Mauk at second doubles, 8-1.
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Jenny Rollins defeated India Flores and Elizabeth Vigue at third doubles, 8-2.
The #1 doubles pairing of
Anna Fletcher and
Nicole Flock fell to Isabela Paixao and Ryah Haidar, 8-4.
In singles play, Capital rounded out a solid day, winning four of the singles matches to clinch the match. Wins came from
Nicole Flock at second singles (6-0, 6-1),
Amy Wright-Lovell at third singles (6-1, 6-3),
Abigail Hornacek at fourth singles (6-0, 6-2) and
Jenny Rollins at sixth singles (6-2, 6-0).
Anna Fletcher fell in first singles (6-0, 6-1) and
Rachel Smith dropped a back-and-forth fifth singles match (6-7, 6-2, 6-10).

The Comets' originally scheduled tri-match at Franklin College with Marian University for Sunday, March 19th was canceled due to cold temperatures. Thus, Capital's next match on the schedule is for Saturday, March 25th at 1 p.m. at Otterbein.
