Women’s Lacrosse Suffers Loss to High-Powered Kenyon

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team suffered an unfamiliar experience at Bernlohr Stadium this evening, losing a home game.

Over the last two seasons, Capital held a 19-1 record on their home field, last falling on March 27, 2021. That loss was just a single goal to Mount Union. Tonight, the Owls of Kenyon College got the best of the Comets, winning 20-10.

With the result, Kenyon improves to 3-0 on the season and Capital moves back to 2-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was as even of a game of lacrosse could be as both teams shared the goals at 4-4 and were tight in nearly every category including ground balls, caused turnovers and draws.

With 53 seconds left in the quarter and Cap ahead 4-3, mother nature flashed lightning and forced a roughly 40 minute delay. After the delay the visitors were able to level the score before the change of quarters.

That first quarter saw Capital's Grace Osborn score the first three goals of the game for the Comets. Andi Henry did nab a free position goal to give the Comets their fourth of the frame however.

In the second quarter, Capital responded from a brief 5-4 deficit and roared back to capture an 8-6 lead. The Comets got goals from Riley Johnson, Henry, Dylan Smith and Osborn during the run. However, from that goal on, the Owls won every draw opportunity and scored four straight goals of their own to establish a 10-8 lead before the halftime break.

The visitors rode that built up momentum into the third quarter and outscored Capital 5-0 in the third frame.

The fourth was slightly better for Cap as Luci Kanowsky and Andi Henry would both find goals, but the Owls executed to near perfection, scoring another five goals to ice the game at 20-10.

The game was physical from the first minute as the game eventually worked up 13 yellow cards throughout the 60 minutes of play.
