WOOSTER, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team took to the road for their second straight road game to start the season, this time venturing to the College of Wooster. There, Capital fell 14-7.
The result pegs Capital back to 0-2 on the year, while Wooster improves to 3-0.
The effort was not due to a lack of scoring opportunities as Capital was able to rifle off 43 shots in the game, but the Wooster goalie was up to the task all night long.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets saw identical first and second quarters of 3-1 score lines lead to a 6-2 deficit at the halftime break. In the first quarter, Capital netted their goal with one second remaining in the quarter as
Mason Spaulding dispatched a man-up goal off an assist from
Dylan Comella.
In the second quarter,
Brenden Pelton got the goal for Capital as he beat the Wooster goalie with 6:05 remaining for his second tally of the season.
The third quarter started all in favor of the hosts as Wooster rattled off the first four goals of the frame to open their lead out to 10-2. That momentum was then halted briefly by an unassisted strike from
Jacob Poole.
A Scots goal would make the score 11-3, but the Comets came back strong, scoring three straight, thanks to a goal from
Jack Kilgallon and two from
Charlie Howenstine. That 11-6 score would hold until the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Wooster would seal the game, outsourcing Capital by a familiar margin of 3-1.
