DANVILLE, Ky. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team took to the field once again on Saturday, this time traveling 230 miles south to the campus of Centre College. The Comets showed off their high-powered offense headed by
Grace Osborn who had 10 goals herself en route to a 23-13 Capital win.
Capital progresses to 2-0 in the new season. Centre gets their first loss of the season, now 2-1 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital had as strong a start as ever, roaring out to a 7-0 lead in the first ten minutes. All members of Capital's new front four got in on the action. Led by
Grace Osborn who scored three goals,
Luci Kanowsky put in two, and
Julia Foresi and
Andi Henry each added one.
Centre gained some ground in the second quarter, outscoring Capital 5-4 in the period. The Purple and White scores were provided by
Dylan Smith, Foresi, Kanowsky, and Osborn. The Comets can contribute much of their success in the first half to their ability to win the draw control, winning 16 of the 19 available.
In the third quarter, Centre kept their pressure up, scoring the first two goals of the frame to close the score to 11-8. Despite the closing of the score, Capital regrouped and rattled off the next five goals to re-establish control of the game.
Grace Osborn tallied three goals and
Julia Foresi added two of her own during the stretch. Before the third quarter was up, both
Luci Kanowsky and
Grace Osborn would find the back of the cage after Centre scored a ninth.
In the fourth, play relatively evened out, but the Comets held the upper hand, outscoring the Colonels 5-4 to eventually claim the 10-goal win. Fourth quarter strikes came thanks to Osborn (2), Henry,
Riley Johnson and
Heather Stoner. The goals for Johnson and Stoner marked their first at Capital.
