COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team played their penultimate game of the 2022-23 regular season on Wednesday. The opponent of the night was the Marietta College Pioneers. The Comets fell 82-68 at the final buzzer, forcing a must-win game on Saturday when Baldwin Wallace pays a visit to The Capital Center.
Capital falls to 11-13 on the season and 7-10 in the OAC.
Marietta moves to 15-9 overall and 10-7 in conference play.
The story of the game proved to be the first 10 minutes of the game as Marietta built out a blistering 21-3 lead. From there, Capital was forced to play catch-up the rest of the way, and despite a few good runs just ran out of steam to pull off a comeback.
The Pioneers shot up a blistering 52% while Capital managed just a 40% clip. Control of the glass and fewer turnovers also favored the visitors, making matters more difficult for Cap to make a game of it after the slow start.
