Women’s Basketball Stumbles Against the Quakers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team kicked off the first leg of a three-game homestand this evening with a 59-50 loss at the hands of Wilmington College.

The result moves both teams to 12-8 overall and 6-7 in the OAC this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The story of the game proved to be early turnovers for the Comets as they fell behind 18-9 in the first quarter. In that frame, Cap coughed up possession eight times, gifting Wilmington nine of their 18 points.

In the second quarter, the play evened out as both sides put up 14 points a piece to keep the spread at nine points heading to the halftime break.

In the third, Cap had an opportunity to get back into it, but a stingy defense from the Quakers held the Comets to just seven points. In the process, Wilmington added six points to their lead and were ahead 45-30 after 30 minutes of action.

In the final frame, Capital did their best to get back into it, closing to within five points with 35 seconds left in the game. Bri O'Connor had a steal and score to put them within striking distance. With time left to make a further dent, a layup from O'Connor rimmed out and all but sealed off the game, 59-50 in favor of the Quakers.
