COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team let a slow first quarter hold them back enroute to a 68-55 loss at home to No. 22 ranked Marietta College on Wednesday.
The Comets now sit 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while the Pioneers jump ahead to 5-1 (2-0 OAC).
Capital, who allowed the Pioneers to put up 48 first half points, was able to hold the visitors to just 20 second half points as they tried to get back into the game. Unfortunately, a couple of key stops defensively by the Pioneers held Cap at bay long enough to hold out for the comfortable win.
Bri O'Connor and
Laney Murphy matched for the team-high in scoring with 12 points each. O'Connor also added seven rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block. Murphy contributed a rebound and two steals.
Jenna Horsley scored 11 points off the bench thanks to a 4-of-6 clip shooting the ball. She added a pair of rebounds.
Samaree Perkins put in nine points and eight boards to go with two steals and an assist.
Maddi Weiland recorded two blocks and two steals to go with her five points and four rebounds.
