BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (4-4, 1-2 OAC) made the trek north to the Cleveland area on Sunday, taking on Baldwin Wallace (6-2, 3-0 OAC) in some rare late-weekend hoops action. The Comets struggled to move the ball around – with only three Comets having scored deep into the third quarter – which resulted in a lapse on the scoreboard. In the end, it would be BW coming out on top, 68-53.
It was a slow first half for CU, making only 9 field goals as they went 9-for-29 (31.0%) from the field and 1-for-5 (20.0%) from three-point range in each of the first two quarters. As a result, Baldwin Wallace would go into the break with a 14-point halftime lead, 34-20.
The Comets came out of the break with some momentum as they improved their shooting numbers and ate into the BW lead by six points. As it stood heading into the final 10 minutes of the game, Capital's deficit was still manageable. Unfortunately the momentum would not last for the Purple and White and a strong finish from the other side left them 15 points behind at the final buzzer, 68-53.
Bri O'Connor was the leading scorer for the Comets, putting up 18 points. She also had four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Laney Murphy made for 15 points, one rebound, and one steal.
Samaree Perkins was the main proponent on the glass as per usual with eight rebounds. She also totalled eight points, one assist, and one steal.
Demi Brewer scored seven points, along with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
